Yosemite National Park: What you need to know before going

Yosemite is my favorite national park that I went to last Fall. It is located in the central California that attracts a great number of people to visit annual years. If you plan to take a trip to this park, you should visit in Fall or Summer. Because there is no rain or snow, it is safe for outdoor activities in Yosemite such as hiking, climbing, and biking. Moreover, trails do not close within this period.

In order to prepare well for the trips I recommend you:
Book a room at 1-2 months: My friends and I planned to take a trip in Oct, so we booked the room in Aug.
Stay in Yosemite park: we booked the room in Half Dome Village located in the park that was convenient for us to get in Mist Trail – the main trail in Yosemite.
Check the weather: If the weather is bad, you should cancel the trip since most of the activities are outdoor activities.
Bring the right stuff: trekking poles, trekking shoes, earplugs, weather blankets, rechargeable batteries and a camera (or you will regret:)
Do not leave things to attract Bears in your cars and tent: lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, perfume and…of course…foods:)

We started at 3:00 AM so we could reach Glacier Point at 6:00 AM to see the sunrise. Luckily, there was assessable to drive to this place – one of the highest points, featuring views of Yosemite landscape. Even though it was too cold at that time, we still jumped outside to enjoy this magnificent scene and take lots of unforgettable photos:). Trust me! You will regret if you do not take any photos.

We booked a tent in Half Dome Village that located right below Half Dome and Glacier Point, Half Dome Village offered people a convenient place to stay while visiting Yosemite National Park.

The village was a nice and historic assortment of 46 cabins with private baths and 424 canvas tent cabins. Ten cabin accommodated about 2 – 5 people. Although the exterior design of the tent was not nice:), it came equipped with beds, blankets, and pillows. There was only one electrical light and no electrical outlets to recharge your phone (now you know why you need to bring rechargeable batteries:).

It was surprising that the public restroom and bathrooms were quite clean that offered free of the shampoo and the bath soap. It was pity the park did not allow to burn fires also to make noise after 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM – no party outdoor:(. There were one restaurant and one Pizza store near our tent. We chose Pizza that was so delicious; however, you must wait for about 1 hour to make the order.

The most important thing is that you should keep your lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, perfume and foods in the bear locker that puts in front of the tent. Last but not least, since the local store, grocery and restaurants do not open before 7:30 AM, you should bring your own food for the breakfast if you want to take a trail at early morning.

From Half Dome village, we took shuttle buses to get to Mist Trail – one of the most popular hiking in Yosemite. It seemed to be the main way to reach many of the park’s top sights. Our goal was to reach the top of the Vernal Fall that required you to climb 500 rocky stairs to the top of the waterfall. From this view, you can capture the fantastic point of the waterway and the surrounding park. On the way back to the village, we chose the different trail; therefore, we could capture another beautiful view of Yosemite. You should use trekking poles and trekking shoes that help you a lot for climbing. Because some parts of Mist Trail are closed in the winter because of snow, ice, and falling rock, you should follow up the status of trail frequently.
