How do you spend your valentine’s day?

How do you spend your valentine’s day?

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I know half of my friends are planning on going on dates, while the other half are all going to avoid the day entirely. I think Valentine’s is sweet though—it’s a day to show your appreciation for the people you care about and let them know you love them.

If I ask most of my friends what they think about Valentine’s day, they say “it’s another Hallmark holiday so that the card industry can make money”. While that might be true, there is something special about the day when you are able to share it with the people you care most about.

No matter what the plans are though, for Valentines, it’s hard to come up with things to do. If you’re going out with friends, where do you go? If you’re going out on a date, what restaurant do you pick? Do you give gifts? Flowers? Chocolate? There are a lot of different choices you can make.

I personally love making unique and thoughtful gifts to give to my beloved ones that they can represent my love. This year I will make a hand-made chocolate that I learn the recipe from my aunt.

4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/5 pinch salt
1/6 teaspoon ground dried chipotle pepper

Places chocolate in a big bowl, then adds dried chipotle pepper and salt.
Heat the cream in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until it comes to a boil.
Pour cream over chocolate and let stand for 4 minutes.
Blend gently until the chocolate mixture is completely smooth.
Pour chocolate mixture out onto a sheet of plastic wrap on a work surface.
Pick up one edge of the plastic and roll the chocolate into a rough log shape.
Continue to roll, wrapping chocolate in the plastic. Refrigerate until chilled and firm to 45 minutes or 1 hour.
Place cocoa in a small bowl, then unwrap chocolate and cut in half crosswise.
Place the chocolate pieces into the cocoa and toss gently to coat.

There’s nothing wrong with spending Valentine’s any way you want to—but if you’re alone on the holiday and feeling bad for yourself, don’t be! Phone up some friends and make group plans to go out—choose a restaurant you’ve never been to, or have a dinner party at someone’s house. Or reading a book that I highly recommend you to read Still MeThe #1 New York Times bestselling author Jojo Moyes will feature her iconic heroine of Me Before You and After You, Louisa Clark. Funny, romantic, and poignant, Still Me follows Lou as she navigates how to stay true to herself while pushing to live boldly in her brave new world.

Either way, the night will be spent with people you love, good food, and good music—and it will definitely be something you remember for years.
