Hot Toddy: The Perfect Recipe for Holiday Treats

Hot Toddy: The Perfect Recipe for Holiday Treats

I know that whiskey isn’t food, but I have friends who disagree with this. Which is how I ended up trying my first Hot Toddy this week, and I think I’m in love. As you know, the hot toddy, also known as hot whiskey in Ireland, is specifically a mixed drink made of liquor and water with honey, herbs, and spices, and served hot.  It was delicious, and perfect for cool fall weather. I managed to get the recipe from my friend and thought I’d share it with you to make at home or for holiday parties.

How to make the Hot Toddy – The Perfect Drink To Your Holiday Festivities?

-60ml of Water

-60ml Whiskey

-2 Tsp Honey

-1 Tsp Lemon Juice

-3 Cloves

-1 Cinnamon Stick

-Small slice of ginger, about 1cm (peeled and sliced)

-Lemon Peel (one thin strip)

-Grated nutmeg

  1. Pour the water into a small pan, and add the spices (cloves, cinnamon, ginger), over a low heat until it’s gently simmering.
  2. Rinse your glass with hot water until warm, and dry off
  3. Pour the whiskey into the warm glass, add water and spices on top.
  4. Stir in the honey and lemon juice, to taste
  5. Sprinkle nutmeg over the top
  6. Enjoy!

Finally, It’s a lot simpler than I thought it would be, and I’m excited to make these the next time I have friends over. I get nervous when it comes to making drinks for other people, so I’ll be sure to practice first to get it right.
